-LOOK의 단상-

우리는 대상을 봄(LOOK)으로써 인식한다. 그러나 우리가 어떤 대상을 본다고 해서 그 대상의 모

든 진실과 진리를 다 보거나 인식할 수 없는 것이다.

나는 모든 대상과 현상을 바르게 보고 인식하여 그 실체의 진실과 진리를 바르게 보자는 것이 나

의 작품 창작의 화두이다. 모든 대상과 실체는 유(有)와 무(無), 음(陰)과 양(陽), 카오스(Chaos)와

코스모스(Chaos), 행복과 불행, 삶과 죽음, 내면과 외면 등이 모두 경계 선상에서 입방체로 그 뿌

리를 맞대고 있다. 이런 입방체인 구조는 이분적인 경계 선상에서 그 사람이 바라보는 각도에 따

라 다르게 인식되는 것이다. 따라서 어떤 대상과 실체를 바로 보기 위해서는 입체적으로고 바라보

고 인식해야 참다운 앎에 도달할 수 있는 것이다. ‘LOOK’은 자기로부터 출발하여 입체적으로 인

식하는 사고를 바탕으로 이 우주 만물과 현상과 실체를 바르게 보자는 것이다. 나는 작품의 조형

구조에서 이런 경계 선상을 표현하여 감상자들에게 자기의 모습을 입체적으로 바라보는 장(場)을

제공하고 싶은 것이다. 스테인리스 스틸의 반짝이는 표면에 감상자의 모습이 투영되는 거울이라

는 장치를 이용하여 감상자가 작품과 조응하는 경계에서 사유하는 시간을 갖게 하는 것이다. 그리

하여 스테인리스 스틸 재료의 투영성으로 감상자에게 자신의 “바라보기(LOOK)”의 사유적 공간과

시간을 제공하고자 하는 것이다. 그리하여 참다운 자기의 존재를 찾아가는 사유적 시간과 공간에

서 이 작품의 화두인 ‘LOOK’을 통해서 대상과 현상을 바르게 인식하여 보다 행복하고 풍요로운

인간 사회가 이루어지기를 기대해 본다. (작가 노트 중에서)

-Fragmentary Thoughts of LOOK-

We cognize objects by looking at them. However, simply looking at a certain object does not

mean that we fully see or cognize the whole fact and truth of the object.

The topic of creating my work is to correctly see the fact and truth by correctly viewing and

cognizing every object and phenomenon. In terms of every object and substance, the matters

like existence and nonexistence, yin and yang, chaos and cosmos, happiness and unhappiness,

life and death, and internal side and external side are facing their roots with each other cubicly

on the boundary. This cubical structure is differently cognized according to viewers’ angle on the

dichotomous boundary line. Therefore, in order to correctly view a certain object and its truth, we

should look at and cognize it in three dimensions to reach the true knowledge. ‘LOOK’ aims to

look at the phenomena and truth of all things in this universe based on three-dimensional

thinking that is originally started from oneself. I want to provide a place for looking at oneself in

three dimensions to appreciators by expressing this boundary line in the formative structure of

work. Using a device called mirror that projects appreciators’ looks on the shiny surface of

stainless steel, I can make the appreciators have some time to think in the boundary of fitting

with the work. Through the projectivity of stainless steel material, it aims to provide appreciators

with time and space to think and “look” at themselves. I hope to realize more affluent and

happier human society by correctly cognizing objects and phenomena through ‘LOOK’ which is

the topic of this work in the time and space of thinking to find the existence of true oneself. (In
